Summary of Duties:

Under the general supervision of the Common Services Officer (CSO), provides confidential driving services by ensuring the highest level of safety and security while driving and by following all required local and safe driving regulations and practices; courier and logistics services; delivery and errand services to all mission programs; takes care of vehicle maintenance; provides basic administrative support services to the mission following established mission and Global Affairs Canada (GAC) policies, completes other tasks if needed.

Area of Selection:

This position is open to individuals who are legally authorized to work in Türkiye who meet all the essential qualifications and whose applications are received before or on the closing date.

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates will initially be screened against the Essential Qualifications relating to education, language* and experience.

Candidates must clearly demonstrate when applying to the position how they meet each of these essential qualifications.

Education:

Candidates will be required to provide proof of the completion of their education.

  • Completed secondary school

Language:

  • *Fluency in English (oral, written, comprehension)
  • *Fluency in Turkish (oral, written, comprehension)
 

*Fluency will be assessed by a variety of means including written assessment and interview.  Candidates may also be contacted via telephone prior to closing date to assess English language.

Experience:

  • Have at least three recent* years of experience as a professional driver (e.g., taxi, tourism company, limousine, bus) in the city of Istanbul and its surroundings.
  • At least 1 year recent* experience in general office support/running errands and/or of delivering courier and logistics services. 

*Recent is defined as within the past 5 years.  

RATED REQUIREMENTS

The Rated Requirements are part of the essential qualifications and are relating to knowledge, abilities and competencies. Methods of assessment for rated requirements may include, but are not limited to, a written examination, an oral interview (online pre-recorded/live or in-person), role-play, practical tests, presentations and/or psychometric assessment.

Asset Qualifications:

Preference may be given to candidates who meet the Asset Qualifications. Where applicable, candidates must clearly demonstrate how they meet any asset qualifications.

  • Similar/Previous experience working for an Embassy/Consulate or an international organization
  • Experience driving armored vehicles
  • Experience dealing with VIPs/ dignitaries
  • Knowledge of the French language (spoken)
  • Able to provide basic IT assistance
  • Experience performing light property maintenance tasks, and knowledge how to use a drill and other tools

Organizational Needs: 

This process will be used to create a pool of candidates for similar positions either full time or part time and indeterminate, term or emergency.

Operational Requirements:

  • Normal hours of work will be 45 per week
  • Extensive overtime to perform duties outside normal working hours, at short notice, may be required. (i.e., evenings, statutory holidays, and weekends / in emergency situations)
  • Travel (Outside of Istanbul, around Türkiye) may be required
  • Physical capacity to stand and move for long periods of time, bend, and crawl as necessary and to lift heavy loads up to 25 kgs
  • Able to provide office/hospitality services to support mission programs
  • The employee will be required to undergo special training to drive an armored vehicle to ensure the safety of authorized mission personnel in high-risk locations

Conditions of Employment:

Conditions of employment must be met or complied with before being appointed to a particular position, and are to be maintained throughout the employment while being the incumbent of this position.

- Valid work authorization: Ability to obtain and hold a valid work authorization covering the entire employment period.

- Security screening: Obtain and maintain a Reliability Status (security level) which includes a criminal and credit background check from the Government of Canada covering the entire employment period.

- Other conditions of employment; 

  • Health screening: Applicants must meet the requirements of a medical examination which will be a condition prior to appointment.
  • Citizenship Disclosure: The successful candidate must disclose to the Consulate if they hold Canadian Citizenship before being employed at the Consulate or if they obtain the Canadian Citizenship at any time during their employment with the Consulate (Please note that Canadian citizens/residents and Canadian dual nationals may be subject to Canadian income tax deductions).
  • Driver’s License: Applicants must be in possession of a valid Turkish driver’s license and have a clean driver’s license record.
